Brentwood Walnut Floor from Dark to Light + Rubio Monocoat
Dramatic changes were in store for this dark Walnut hardwood floor when we showed up. The house was in Brentwood, California, the beautiful hillside suburb of Los Angeles. The owners wanted to change the floor from the dark color, remove all signs of the handscraping and turn it light and flat. Originally they considered replacing the entire floor, roughly 3,000sqft. But a $200,000 price tag seemed excessive. We were able to come in and sand and refinishin it for far less, around $30,000. See the results below...
Changing a hardwood floor from dark to lght isn't a quick or easy task. Especially when you're also dealing with deep grooves from handscraping. First the grooves were sanded out. Then, once the floor was finally flat (and quite a bit thinner), we bleached it twice to lighten it. Next step was applying a pre-treatment product from Rubio Monocoat called PreColorEasy. Vanilla was chosen for the light color. Finally Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C hardwax oil in the color White 5% was applied on top. The whole process took about 2 weeks. But what a transformation! I highly recommend Marcos and the CMC Hardwood Floors team! They did an amazing job refinishing my solid red oak floors, and I cannot be happier with the results. I did a lot of research on floor refinishing and talked to five companies before deciding on CMC. Marcos stood out for his responsiveness, and how much he cares for his craft. Marcos and team did a great job on our oak floors. He’s very professional and gave time to answer any of our concerns. He did a test area to see if we liked the color we chose and it came out great!
