Los Angeles Restaurant Hardwood Floor Refinishing + Dark Stain
This hardwood floor refinishing project was a fun one. Located in Los Angeles, the LULU at the Hammer restaurant's floor had seen better days. After years of heavy foot traffic and spilled food and drink, the 700sqft of hardwood flooring needed to be freshened up.
Despite years of customer use, the original floors were still in good shape. They were super wide plank 12" French Oak imported from Grato in Spain. The just needed to be sanded back to bare wood, stained and then refinished. To match the existing concrete, a beautiful dark stain from Duraseal called aged Barrel was chosen. A commercial grade water-based finish system that would stand up to the busy restaurants foot traffic was used. We used a product from German finish manufacturers Loba. The product is Loba Supra Extra Matte, perfect for this type of commercial application. If you're in Los Angeles, pop by and check out this beautiful dark stained hardwood floor for yourself.

We recently purchased. a home with carpet on top of hardwood floors that were original to the house. We decided to try to refinish the floors since they were in good condition. The only problem was that parts of the house had vinyl tiles over the hardwood. After removing the vinyl tiles, what remained was a layer of asphalt mastic. It didn't look promising at all. CMC flooring to the rescue. Marcos (the owner) came by and gave me a quote, told me that they will be able to work with it, they just needed to use a special attachment to remove it. As promised, the floors came out great! It took 2.5 days for 3 sanding sessions. We decided to use the hardwax oil refinishing product, which allowed a variety of colors. Marcos made the samples on the floor so can see what the product looks like on the actual floor, rather than just going off of pictures. The floors came out great, it took 1.5 days to apply 2 coats, (a day each) and we were able to walk on it the floors after 24 hours of the 2nd coat. We left the windows open to let the product air out, and moved in with furniture after 48 hours. We love our new floors. Marcos was very professional, courteous and always on-time. When I first spoke with him on the phone, he explained the entire process and educated me on the different options. I always had time to think it over over before making a decision, there was no pressure at all. At the end of every day, Marcos would call and give me an update on the process. We also went with the dustless sanding, and true to their word, there were no sand dust in the house!
