Venice Beach Edge Grain Oak Install, Sand and Finish with Rubio Monocoat
This was a really fun hardwood floor installation and refinishing project in Venice Beach, Los Angeles. The owner is an architect so of course it was going to be a unique floor. In the end, an end grain white oak wood floor was sourced from European company Kaswell Flooring. Below you can see how it turned out...
The whole house, about 1,800sqft, had the custom parquet flooring installed, including the 49 steps and 54 risers. That's a LOT of stairs. It took our crew 2 weeks to prepare the sub-floors and staircases, install the wood flooring and then sand and refinish it. Our favorite hardwax oil, Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C, was used for the finish system. The color Pure was chosen. To make sure the thousands of joints in the end grain flooring looked good, we used a special filler (Loba EasyFillPro) that would accept the color so it looked the same as the flooring. We're very happy with how this custom hardwood floor in Venice Beach turned out. Happily, so are the owners.

Venice Beach White Oak Installation and Refinishing with Loba Invisible
The owners of this home in Venice Beach, Los Angeles were not happy with the Brazillian Cherry hardwood floors the house came with. Instead of the dark, reddish brown shades, they wanted a light colored hardwood floor. So they decided to install a brand new engineered wide plank White Oak floor on top. This project was done in two stages. The reason was because of the custom reglet trim the owners wanted. This trim is a reveal in the drywall that replaces the need for baseboards. It's a beautiful, clean modern look. So we first sanded the original Brazillian Cherry floors down flat, to be used as the sub-floor. Then we glued the 8" engineered White Oak flooring we supplied and delivered. It couldn't be nailed because of the dense, hard sub-floor. We also installed new custom treads and risers on the staircase. Once the hardwood floor and stair installation was completed, we left so the drywallers could do thier thing. When they finished up, we came back and sanded and refinished the flooring and staircase. We also installed brand new matching oak handrails and new metal spindles on the staircase, replacing the original dated stainless steel handrail. The owners wanted a natural looking very matte look. So we went with a professional grade water-based finish system called Loba Invisible. All up this wood floor project took 10 days and covered about 1,500sqft.
